We are kicking off the new academic year with the GENDER.ED Welcome Reception for 2024-25, and everyone is invited!

We are so excited to announce that this year’s event features poetry recitals from acclaimed poet/authors, Jaspreet Kaur and Nadine Aisha Jassat.

Jaspreet Kaur: How Poetry Saved My Life

Join us to hear from Jaspreet Kaur’s much-anticipated debut poetry collection which comprises the poetry she has penned over the last fifteen years to support her mental well-being and that ultimately saved her life.

The collection invites readers to the vulnerable and honest journey of how Jaspreet used creative self-expression to develop resilience, empowerment, strength and self-love whilst traversing difficult social, cultural and emotional terrains. For the first time, readers will see the words that served Jaspreet in her darkest times, sharing poems of anxiety, depression, recovery, love, relationships, identity politics and female empowerment, but ultimately healing and hope

Nadine Aisha Jassat: Stories, Poetry, and Identity

Nadine Aisha Jassat is an award-winning poet, author, and storyteller known for her powerful explorations of heritage, identity, and the human experience. Her work spans poetry collections like Let Me Tell You This and verse novels that delve into personal and cultural narratives. Nadine's performances and workshops are celebrated for creating safe, empowering spaces that encourage self-expression and resilience. Join us to experience her distinctive voice, which blends emotional depth with lyrical storytelling.

We will also be announcing the winners of the GENDER.ED-EUSA Undergraduate Feminist Trailblazer Awards, and the Queer Futures Prize, for 2023-24.

The event will be followed by a networking reception, where you will have the exciting opportunity to build connections for the coming academic year, and to find out more about what opportunities are open to get involved in gender and sexualities studies at the University. For those of you who are already a part of our ever-growing network, we can't wait to welcome you back!
